Opportunities for water travel are almost everywhere in Fiji. Ferries and water taxis can get you from point A to point B, or simply take you on a day tour around the islands of Fiji.

To the Mamanuca & Yasawa Islands

Awesome Adventures (675 0499) is the 800 lb. gorilla when it comes to transporting people around the Yasawa and Mamanuca Groups. The company operates the bright yellow Yasawa Flyer, a large catamaran, which services the resorts in the Yasawa Islands plus some of the Mamanuca resorts. The sleek vessel has a comfortable interior which includes a snack shop and toilets. The Mamanuca Islands are also frequented by SouthSea Cruises (owned by the same company as Awesome Adventures). The Malolo Cat a sleek, 96 passenger, 22.5 meter catamaran services Malolo Lailai four times daily.

The Taveuni – Suva – Taveuni ferry transits through Natuvu & Nabouwalu wharfs. The Princess Moana departs Taveuni at 4 am–reporting time is at 3.30 am. The bus coach will await passengers at Natuvu for transfer to Suva through Nabouwalu – Natovi on Patterson Shipping buses. (Taveuni bound passengers from Suva also depart at 4 am with Patterson Shipping Sea Road link).

Fare is $71 FJD one way. Bookings in Suva are done with Patterson Shipping.

For Labasa & Savusavu bound passengers from Taveuni, Princess Moana departs Taveuni at 7.45 am daily. Afternoon daily trips depart Taveuni at 1.45 pm and leaves Natuvu 3.15 pm for Taveuni in time for passengers to catch the last bus to both ends of Taveuni. Boat fares include Taveuni-Natuvu — $10 FJD; Taveuni-Savusavu — $15 FJD; and Taveuni-Labasa — $20 FJD.

Consort Shipping

DEPARTING SUVA–SUVA-SAVUSAVU-TAVEUNI Consort Shipping (330 2877; fax 330 3389; sails three times a week from Suva to Savusavu ($80/50 for cabin/seat), departing Suva at 6pm on Monday and Friday and noon on Wednesday. It takes 12 hours to reach Savusavu. On Wednesday and Friday it continues for another eight hours on to Taveuni ($90/55 from Suva for cabin/seat). On the return it departs Taveuni around noon on Friday and Sunday, arriving in Savusavu at around 5 pm. (This service occasionally stops at Koro – a nine hour trip).

DEPARTING LAUTOKA-ELLINGTON WHARF-NABOUWALU-LABASA

Patterson Brothers Shipping Labasa (881 2444); Lautoka (666 1173); Levuka (344 0125); Suva (3315644); plies this route twice weekly ($60). It entails a bus ride (3+ hours) from Lautoka, a voyage on the Ashika ferry (3+ hours) and another bus ride to Labasa (four hours). Buses depart from outside the Lautoka office at 4 am on Friday and Monday, and from Labasa at 6 am on Sunday and Wednesday.

DEPARTING SUVA SUVA-NATOVI-NABOUWALU-LABASA

Patterson Brothers Shipping travels this route ($45 one way) on Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Again it involves a bus ride (1 1/2 hours) from Suva, a ferry trip (41/2 hours) and another bus to Labasa (four hours). Buses depart the Suva office at 4.30 am.

Suva/Ovalau service

Goundar Shipping offers a daily bus/ferry service from Suva to Levuka Wharf departing 8 am 4 pm from Natovi Landing.  Return from Levuka Wharf to Suva departs 7 am and 3 pm. Phone: 3301020 and 3301021.

Suva-Levuka: The bus departs Suva at 6.00 am from the Western Bus Stand opposite the Suva Flea Market. (Reporting time is 5.30 am). The bus goes to Natovi Landing (about two hours). From there you board the ferry  to Levuka, arriving at approximately 10.30 am. Tickets in Suva can be purchased from the Ticket Booth located at the Market bus stand beside Bio-Security office or, from Goundar Shipping’s office in the Ganilau Building next to the HFC Bank.  A second, afternoon bus departs from the Western Bus Stand at 1.30 pm and proceeds to Natovi Landing, arriving at 3.30pm. The ferry, which departs at 4.00 pm, arrives in Levuka at about 5.30pm. Note that if you have transport to Natovi from Suva You can also board the ferry at Natovi Landing.  Reporting time there is 7.30am and 3.00pm daily.  Tickets can purchased on board the ferry.

Levuka- Suva:  Departs from the Levuka Wharf daily at 3.00 pm. (Reporting time is 2.00 pm). Tickets can be purchased in Levuka from Ambalal & Sons (on Beach Street).  The trip to Natovi Landing on Viti Levu is about two and a half hours. Board the same bus that took you to the Levuka Wharf for the two hour trip  Suva. There is a similar early morning ferry which departs Levuka Wharf daily at 7.00 am. (Reporting time is 6.00 am).

Venu Shipping also operates a bus/ferry service between Suva and Levuka with the “St. Mary” on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

The air-conditioned coach departs Suva at 10.45 am from the Western Bus Stand opposite the Flea Market for the two-hour drive to Natovi Landing.  (Reporting time is 10.15 am). The ferry arrives in Levuka, arriving at approximately 3.30pm. Tickets from Suva can be purchased from the Ticket Booth located at the Market Carrier stand beside Bio-security office.

Levuka to Suva: departs Mondays, Wednesday and Fridays. The coach loads up in front of Outback Range Limited supermarket in the main street of Levuka at 7.00am (reporting time is 6.30am).  The coach drives to the Levuka Wharf (about 5 minutes), on to the ferry and takes about two and a half hours for the scenic trip to Natovi Landing, where it drives off the ferry and takes about two hours to arrive in Suva.

Patterson Brothers Shipping also services Levuka but stops at Buresala Landing on Ovalau, a 60 minute ride from Levuka.

Suva – Levuka

Patterson Brothers Shipping operates a daily service ($24 one way), which involves a bus ride (l 1/2 hours) from Suva (Western Bus Terminal, Rodwell Rd) to Natovi Landing, followed by a ferry to Buresala Landing (one hour) and another bus to Levuka (one hour). Buses depart Suva at 2 pm.

Suva – Bau Landing – Leleuvia – Levuka 

There are services from Suva to Leleuvia via Bau Landing ($30 one way) and from Leleuvia to Levuka ($20 one way).
