Traveling by taxi from Savusavu to Buca Bay on the island of Vanua Levu in Fiji. I then hop on a ferry to Taveuni, where I travel again by taxi to see the 180th meridian and the west coast. There's substantial storm damage on Taveuni from Cyclone Tomas.

There are 3 different modes of transport between Taveuni and Vanua Levu: (1) airplane, (2) long taxi ride or long bus ride/small ferry, (3) big ferry (but it leaves in the middle of the night). The airplane is very expensive and it flies back to Nadi. There is no connecting flight between the islands (unless you book a private charter). The big ferry is relatively cheap, but it leaves in the middle of the night. The long taxi ride is relatively expensive - but it does take 2 hours to get from Savusavu to Buca Bay (and the taxi driver has to drive back). The ferry from Buca Bay to Taveuni is however cheap - only F$10.

Buca Bay is host to the Mission at Natuvu Creek. A medical clinic for the citizens of northern Fiji.

Scott...I must say you outdid yourself on this one. Terrific video. You can't get more unadulterated reality than in a Scott Putnam video. Next time we talk I'll tell you about what happened to the "old" Meridian.
