Chimneys Dive Site at Namena Reserve

The Namena Marine Reserve was created in 1997 by the Kubulau communities as a breeding ground and sanctuary for marine life. In the years since, fish numbers have dramatically rebounded. The continuing conservation of this bounty has allowed groupers and other large predators of the reef to reach reproductive age, insuring a diverse, healthy, and magnificent seascape. No where else in Fiji is the evidence of marine management more telling than here; for truly, no other accessible dive sites in Fiji are as splendid and awe-inspiring.

In 2004, the Coral Reef Alliance, together with the Kubulau Management Resource Committee came together to help improve the management and effectiveness of the Reserve. Recently, the two instituted the Reserve as an anchor-free zone, thanks to the installation of mooring bouys.
