Land of

As promised, a slew of land creatures I spotted and documented on my recent travels on Taveuni and Malolo islands.

The spotted butterfly, glimpsed on the Lavena Coastal walk.

Spiders hung from webs and trees in Lavena.

I guess this pig was a wandered, thus the… Continue

More then a "Vacation"

Just back from Buca Bay, in Fiji.

Was there from July 6th to August 15th. may be a vacation too long. But was just great full to all the 3 teams (2 medical groups) and one Engineer team from the Bay Area. San Francisco.

I've been there several times - taking volunteer groups. Been to so many villages and yes they need just a little help. I am sure most of you have done it. If not in Fiji may be somewhere else in the world. But if you decide to do similar thing next year in Buca… Continue

Starry Nights

When gazing up at the night sky while on Taveuni, the stars are so bright you can see the gauzy Milky Way rolled out across our universe.

One planet, I believe it is Mars, hung low and bright in the sky like a diamond near Maui’s Fishhook (Scorpio).

If all the town lights…

Hello, Taveuni

Friday July 30.

My flight from Nadi to Taveuni was smooth despite the small size of the prop plane and a bit of storm clouds past Suva. In just about an hour and a half (occupied with reading "A Spot of Bother" by Mark Haddon) I arrived at Matei airport, an informal affair crowded only with people waiting to board our plane and head back to Nadi.

My first… Continue
