i´m planning a trip for me and my family to the lau islands (in 2012 when the rain has stopped :-D). its very little information on the islands i can find in my books and on the internet. we could just jump into it without researching so much but i´m pretty curious about the place...

so do any of you guys have any knowledge or experience about the islands?

I thought I had added some info and photos to this stie a while back but I can't find it now - any clues Rob??

I have heard recently that the Lau Group is effectively more isolated now than when I visited a few years ago - then there were 2 flights a week from Suva, now only one, and while the boat service is supposed to be regular (monthly?) there are often delays.  Have heard that Vanua Balavu (Northern Lau) has less than half dozen visitors per year these days.  We stayed at Moanas and I believe they still take guests.  You might get more information from Carolyn Fotofili who is a member here, she lives in NZ now but did live there.

Hi Marilyn,

I found your stuff--http://fijiguide.com/photo/photo/search?q=lau--It's all there.  I admit it wasn't under your name...it was under "lau".

Frankly I don't know much about travelling there nowadays.  It's been a long, long time since I was there.

Wish I could be more helpful.

I've just added a video clip to the Lau page that I found recently.  We stayed at Moanas with the Fotofilis when we were there in 2005.  Some of their accommodation bures were destroyed in a cyclone but they are still in business.
