Does anyone know about the new bitumen road that is going from Savusavu to Buca Bay when it starts where it is now and when it will be finished. Also is there going to be an electrical grid to complement this road and is it going all the way to Buca Bay.

                                                                                                    Thanks Brad.

The new tar-sealed road will go out 30km from Nagigi Village so it won't reach all the way to Buca Bay. It's a 3 year project, 10km at a time. Eventually the power will follow along. Power now reaches about 5km past Nagigi. The contractors are well into the first 10km which will go about 3km past Salt Lake Road. This photo is along that stretch....

The reason i asked this question is that i own property at Levukalailai and will proberley build at a later stage.I was going to setup a hybrid solar wind system which i probably will anyway, but now knowing that power will come through this will be a great bonus. Thanks again for your reply

Hi, Brad....Levukalailai will be in "stage 2" of the project. The first section goes a little past La Dolce Vita. I haven't heard ANY timeline for the power so your solar/wind system is a good plan. You always need a backup for FEA power anyway.... Cheers, Collin

Hi, Rob - my pleasure! The only other significant thing I can think of is the initiative to get the runway extended but until we KNOW it's going to happen, it's a bit premature. An extension will let the ATRs land here = much bigger aircraft = more seats = more visitors to Savusavu! Fingers & toes crossed....Collin

Hmmmm...come to think of it...hasn't this been an ongoing project?  Or at least, hasn't it been talked about for a long time?

What about the marina in Savusavu?  Did that get shelved?

It's been on our wish list for YEARS! We actually had a commitment to go ahead with a 200 meter extension this year. Then AFL decided it needs to be 300 meters and widened (again), which no one can actually explain. That increases the cost by a multiple of at least five and requires that the road be moved as well. **sigh** The government guys from the North are saying it WILL be in next year's budget ~ we'll see.

By marina, do you mean Robin Irwin's development? He's put in a small BOAT marina at the end of that property but the resort / residential development is on hold for a couple of reasons, mostly $$$ related. The other cause for delay is the new water/sewer treatment plant that's required for ANY more development in town. Allegedly, that will be in next year's budget as well.

Slowly but surely.....we hope!
