Hobie Sailing + Nukulau Picnic

A combined Rucksack + Hobie Sailing Club picnic on Nukulau Island in Laucala Bay for sailors and non-sailors. 

Sailors will sail from the National Sailing Centre at Suva Point while the non-sailors will get to Nukulau on a motorised boat. Nukulau is a favourite picnic spot for Suva residents and became famous after the 2000 coup when George Speight was incarcerated there for a few years, during which time ordinary persons could be shot at if they tried to visit. However, the island now welcomes visitors again. 

If you are not yet a Hobie Sailor but would love to give it a try, there will be a couple of boats and skippers available during the day to give you a taste of the Hobie Way of Life.

Costs

Picnic is $20/person for Island Access, BBQ meat, salads, plates & cutlery, & drinks; or

$10/person if a good sized salad/dessert is contributed.

Children less than 13 years old: $10/each.

BYO alcohol.

Boats

Boat for non-sailors: $25/person, $10/child less than 13 years of age.

Minimum of 20 adults is required for boat hire.

Boat hire costs will be reduced if there are lots of people.

Hobie Sailors: $75/ $100 for old/new boat, respectively.

Hobie Instructor/Skipper: $20/person

Hobie Gear Hire (harness+life-vest+gloves): $20/person

A Taste of the Hobie Way of Life: $25/person/hour – includes gear/boat/skipper.

Full payment is required by Sunday, 19th Feb.

Non-sailors need to pay for picnic + boat transfer.

Sailors need to pay for picnic + boat hire + Instructor/Gear, if needed. 

Requirements: valid Rucksack Club/Hobie Fleet 252 Membership.

Email Deborah as soon as possible, especially if you want to sail – as there is a limited number of instructors/skippers – confirmation only on full payment, first come first served. Let Deb know your number of sailors/non-sailors and if you are putting in a salad/dessert. BBQ Grills also needed – please let Deb know if you have one we can use.

This is a full day activity and the fine details of departure time, etc will be provided once you are confirmed on the trip.
